We are looking for a temporary Product Owner for a period of approximately 6 to 12 months. The challenge is that we operate in a highly specialised and complex domain: aviation weight & balance and aircraft loading software.
Initially, we looked for a candidate that combines deep aviation domain expertise with strong Product Owner and software roadmap capabilities. However, we have concluded that this combination is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find.
What we do already have internally is an absolute subject matter expert in aviation and aircraft loading operations. The issue is that this person is not a Product Owner by profile and is currently struggling with the amount of structure, prioritisation, stakeholder management, and process organisation required in the role.
Therefore, what we are really looking for is an experienced interim Product Owner who can bring structure, clarity, and process discipline into a very chaotic and fast-moving environment. The person does not need to be an aviation expert from day one, but they must be able to:
This role will require close collaboration with both our Director of Aviation and the Manager R&D. Therefore, what we are really looking for is an experienced interim Product Owner who can bring structure, clarity, and process discipline into a dynamic and evolving environment.
It is important to understand that this interim role is primarily intended to stabilise the organisation, introduce structure, and professionalise the way of working around product management and development.
Our longer-term vision is to eventually move towards a more permanent setup with:
At this moment, however, the immediate need is stabilisation, structure, prioritisation, and improved collaboration across teams.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys improving ways of working, introducing structure, and creating clarity in complex technical organisations. Experience in software product environments is far more important to us than prior aviation experience, although affinity with operationally critical systems would certainly help.
Please use this context when searching for candidates, as we believe personality, leadership style, organisational capability, and the ability to create calm and direction in complexity will be more important than ticking every box in the original profile.
